Bhulbhule
The first crossing of the Marsyangdi river in the Annapurna trekking at Bhulbhule.
The glimpse of the 6000+ peaks of the Annapurna massif give a hint
of what is to come in the following days.

At 1300 meters the climate is still tropical.
The steep hills, however, require small terraces to grow rice and vegatables.

Donkey caravan
Transport is done by means of donkey caravans or by human porters.
Horses or cows are scarce because of the absence of meadow-land.

Pisang
In the town of Pisang, at 3185 m, Tibettan influence is clear.
Even in the tropical hemisphere, the climate at 3000 meters is alpine like.

Annapurna III
In the Manang valley (3350 m) you have an excellent view of the Annapurna
massif. From bottom to top of this picture it is a straight walk of 4500 meters:
the top of the Annapurna III at 7855 meters above sea level!

Braga
In 1993 in the Manang valley only the main village Manang had electricity.
The main village was also one of the rare places with radio-contact with
Kathmandu. This picture is taken in a town called Braga. No electricity here...

Thorung La
The Thorung Pass is the toughest part of the Annapurna trek.
The highest point is at an altitude of 5416 meters. Nevertheless, it is an ancient
route to Muktinath, crossed by donkey caravans daily.

The town of Muktinath, altitude 3800 meters, is a place of pilgrimage for
Tibetans. Between the mountains on the right side of the picture is the
Thorung pass. To the left is the Mustang region, close to Tibet.

Sarpang Dhuri
A mystic view at the Sarpang Dhuri (5006 m).
The picture is taken from the watercourse of the Kaligandaki river.
In this watercourse many fossils of sea shells can be found!

Kalopani
At 2530 meters, we are in a moderate climate again.
The town of Kalopani has electricity generated by hydro-power.
Hydro-power is the only source of electricity in Himalayas.

Kathmandu is the capital of the Kingdom of Nepal.
The contrast of the tropical capital with the tough Himalayas is large.
