Utrecht
Utrecht is founded by the Romans in the year 48 as Ultrajectum.
In 1122 the city obtained the so called city-rights, which allowed the city to dig
canals. The church-tower is highest in The Netherlands: 112 meters.
It is build between 1321 and 1382.

The major is canal called Oude Gracht meaning "old canal".
It dates from the beginning of the 12th century.
In the following centuries the water level lowered several meters,
that's why canals in Utrecht have two shores.

Drenthe
With 172 inhabitants per square kilometer, Drenthe is not very densely
populated compared to the rest of The Netherlands.
Walking around for hours without seeing other people is still possible here.
Like in other parts of the country, semi wild cows are used to preserve the
landscape.

Wadden
The Wadden Sea at the north of The Netherlands becomes mudflat during
low tide. So sailing around here requires a flat-bottomed ship.
To get of this shoal we had to wait until midnight...

Amsterdam originates from the dam and locks at the mouth of the river Amstel,

Oudezijds Voorburg Wal
The Oudezijds Voorburg Wal is one of the oldest canals of Amsterdam.
It is dug in 1342.
In 1612, during the Golden Age, the major canals were planned. At the end of
